👋 Good morning!
Word on the street is Manny Ramirez wants to come back to baseball as a hitting coach…
I know a team at 35th & Shields currently in the market for one.
It makes me wonder who the funniest names would be to see return to Chicago for a coaching gig.
Ken Griffey Jr? Nomar Garciaparra? Dwyane Wade? Jared Allen?

Avoiding The Trap

There’s no such thing as a “gimme” in the NFL. Anybody around the league long enough will tell you as much.
How can the Bears avoid the trap — and avoid their eighth consecutive loss to the Saints?
Where Were You When…: The Bears last beat the Saints? It was December 11, 2008, the last time it happened. Kyle Orton finished 24-of-40 passing for 172 yards and two interceptions. Greg Olsen led the team with eight receptions. Matt Forte finished with 11 carries.
Nearly 17 years later, the Bears have their best shot to end their losing streak against a rough 1-5 Saints team that’s trying to find its footing under new head coach Kellen Moore. It’s also why the Bears are in a vulnerable position after back-to-back emotional, last-second, gutted-out wins.
And that’s why Ben Johnson isn’t underestimating anything or anyone heading into Week 7.
Johnson on the Saints: “I have a lot of respect for how they play. They're getting better every week. I've talked to [Dennis Allen], and he feels the same way about their offense. They continue to ascend. So, we won't overlook this opponent. This is a good football team that's on the rise.”
New Beginnings: Last November, Allen was relieved of his duties as head coach of the Saints after a 2-7 start to the season. Allen finished his stint as Sean Payton’s replacement with an 18-25 record.
But Allen’s focus is solely on the task at hand, not on anything that happened in the past.
Allen on his time in New Orleans: “I spent 15 out of my 24 years in the league at that place. So, obviously, I’ve got a lot of fond memories of being there. And yet, it's another game and that's where our focus is this week.”
Allen later added: “Fifteen years there, a lot of good experiences, a lot of good people, a lot of wins. We were part of a lot of success there. So, I’ve got fond memories of it, but again, I think this week, let's focus on the football. This is going to be about the players on the field: Bears vs. the Saints. Those guys will really determine the outcome of the game.”
Injury Report: DT Grady Jarrett (knee), K Cairo Santos (thigh) and LB Noah Sewell (concussion) did not participate in Thursday’s practice. WR DJ Moore (hip/groin) and RB D’Andre Swift (groin) were limited participants.
If Santos cannot go on Sunday, it would be Jake Moody’s turn again. However, Ben Johnson dispelled any rumors of a roster spot controversy, backing Santos as the team’s kicker when he’s available to return from injury.
Moore was hospitalized on Monday night and didn’t travel back to Chicago with the rest of the team, coming home Tuesday morning after some precautionary observation.
Swift was not listed on Wednesday’s injury report, though the Bears only completed a walk-through on Wednesday, so participation was an estimation.
Football is a game of storylines.
Last week, it was Tyrique Stevenson’s chance at redemption. He got it, too — not by making any sensational play, but by not making any glaring error and coming out on the winning side.
In fact, the Commanders gameplanned away from the cornerback, attacking whichever side of the field he wasn’t covering.
For Allen, he doesn’t need to talk about what happened in New Orleans, what went wrong, or what he’d have done differently if given another chance. His shot at redemption is as simple as Stevenson’s, and it comes down to winning a football game on Sunday.

Bulls 126, Timberwolves 120: I wish it could always be the preseason.
The Bulls wrapped up their five-game exhibition slate last night with their third win that won’t count when the regular season begins next week.
Matas Buzelis tallied another 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Buzelis finished the preseason with 88 points on a 57.4% shooting rate.
Jalen Smith also scored 15 points on Thursday night, starting alongside Nikola Vucevic in Chicago’s “big” lineup.

Hey Now, You’re An All-Star (Host): The Sky will serve as hosts of next season’s WNBA All-Star Game, with the event coming to the United Center next summer.
The game will be played on July 25th, with the three-point contest and skills challenge taking place the day before at Wintrust Arena.
