👋 Good morning!
Well, we made it through the break, and lucky for us, things are about to pick up.
The Cubs and White Sox have major decisions to make with the trade deadline now less than two weeks away. And this time next week, Bears training camp will be in full swing in Lake Forest.
But first, we have to tie a bow on another great CHGO Rank Week.

Bears sign two; one to go

The Bears have agreed to terms with two of their three remaining unsigned draft picks: DT Shemar Turner and OT Ozzy Trapilo.
Only WR Luther Burden III remains unsigned from the Bears’ 2025 draft class.
Entering Thursday, only three of the 32 second-round picks around the league had signed their rookie deals, with Texans WR Jayden Higgins and Browns LB Carson Schwesinger inking fully guaranteed contracts shortly after the draft.
The dam cracked yesterday, with eight more second-rounders signing their deals with varying guarantees.
Trapilo, the 56th overall pick this past April, will have the first two seasons of his four-year deal guaranteed, with 77% of the money in his third season guaranteed, according to NFL insider Albert Breer.
Details of Turner’s deal with the Bears are still unclear.
So, when can we expect Burden III to sign? This one’s a little trickier.
After missing all on-field activities following rookie minicamp in May, Burden’s in a tough spot. Unable to participate until he signs, and already behind the eight ball, getting in the building as soon as possible is massively important if Burden wants any realistic shot at breaking camp with a significant role early in the season.
Rookies report to Halas Hall for training camp tomorrow, with veterans set to arrive next Tuesday, July 22.

Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg provided the following update on his health on Wednesday:
To all my Fans and extended baseball Family -
I wanted to share an update regarding my health. It’s been a challenging few months as I have been going through treatment on a regular basis.
While I am continuing to fight, I’m looking forward to making the most of every day with my loving family and friends.
I haven’t been to Wrigley Field as much as I hoped in the first half but I’m watching every game and am excited for the second half and to see Wrigley rocking like 1984!
Thank you for all the messages of support. Go Cubs!
Sandberg, 65, announced late last year that his prostate cancer had relapsed and spread.

EXTENDED: The Blackhawks announced yesterday that they’ve signed defenseman Louis Crevier to a two-year extension worth $900K per season. Crevier, 24, appeared in 32 games with the Blackhawks last season, tallying three goals and one assist.
Crevier, a 2020 seventh-round pick, made his debut with the Blackhawks in December 2023.
