👋 Good morning!

Or should I say, “Hello, friends.”

Whether you’re a diehard or a casual golf fan, The Masters never seems to disappoint. The beauty and prestige of Augusta National are unlike anything you see in the game, and it always delivers golf at its highest standard.

But there’s one tradition unlike any other that I think makes this weekend so attractive: The Masters naps.

So, make yourself a pimento cheese or an Azalea (or both), plop down in your comfy recliner and let the sights and sounds of the course put you into one of the most delightful afternoon snoozes you’ll have in this year.

Your thoughts on Arlington Heights

Until last week, Bears CEO Kevin Warren expressed an adamancy that the team would stay within the city limits when building a brand new stadium.

Warren’s tune changed last week when speaking to reporters at the NFL’s Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Fla.

Now, not only is Arlington Heights back on the table, but the northwest suburb appears to be the front runner in the stadium sweepstakes.

Last Thursday, I asked for your input on the idea of the Bears moving out of Chicago. Here's what some of you said:

  • Michael H: “Arlington Heights is the best location. Served by I-90 and 290, as well as a Metra Station, little needs to be done with existing infrastructure.

“The racetrack often drew 50,000 fans, and there was no tailgating before and after races. 75,000 (or more) coming to the new stadium with arrival time spread out before the game as well as afterward, would not tax the existing infrastructure as many fear.”

  • Ray A: “I view the ownership and control of the buildings and property [as] the biggest issue. In my opinion, the past and current agreements with the city of Chicago have and will keep the Bears at a financial disadvantage relative to the other NFL franchises. To me, it's more about facility and financial control than location.”

  • Diehard Discord Member: “I know ‘Bears Land’ is a ways off, but I would love to be able to go see a Bears HOF/museum, buy some merch and catch a bite on a random weekend in June when I happen to be back in town.

“Also, I would love to be able to tailgate just for the heck of it with no expectation to go in for the game. Tailgating on-site is so limited now. I just don’t see how a lakefront stadium could ever accommodate such a setup.”

Thanks to everybody who sent their input on the possible relocation. I always love the interaction in my inbox from this newsletter every morning, and if you’d ever like to join the conversation, just hit reply!

I chose these responses because each one brought up points worth addressing.

Let’s start with Michael’s:

He’s on the right track about the existing infrastructure, but there are still some concerns. Expressway access is one thing, but Euclid Ave. and Northwest Hwy. in Arlington Heights don’t have the current capabilities to serve a stadium and surrounding community at the extremely high volume involved with an NFL Sunday.

The Arlington Park Metra station is a major bonus but will also require significant upgrades. None of this should come as a surprise to the organization, and traffic studies will highlight these shortcomings. And Lake Shore Drive isn’t a walk in the park, either. Overall, there’s room for improvement, but the necessary upgrades are almost certainly doable.

Lastly, to my knowledge, a new stadium is likely to only seat about 70,000.

As for Ray’s point, I completely agree. The biggest draw to the suburbs is that it gives the league’s charter franchise an opportunity to own their stadium. We’ve heard the possibility that private equity could be involved in funding a new stadium, but having the team’s name on the deed instead of the Chicago Park District would drastically raise the valuation of the franchise.

To our Diehard Discord member, regardless of where the Bears decide to call home for the next several decades, you’re always welcome at a CHGO Bears Tailgate whether you have a ticket to the game or not.

P.S. Tune in to today’s show, too… I’ve got a feeling Carm has a few things to say on the topic.

Quick Hits

  • Worse than last year? The White Sox’s eighth consecutive loss yesterday puts the club on a 27-135 pace this season, which would somehow be 14 games worse than last year’s historic atrocity. For reference, the Sox did not lose eight straight until the end of May last season.

In an effort to ignite some sort of spark, Chicago is calling up their No. 8 prospect, Chase Meidroth. Meidroth, 23, was acquired in the offseason from the Red Sox in the deal that sent Garrett Crochet to Boston.

  • You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take… And if you’re the Blackhawks, you don’t miss any shots. At least, that was the case for Chicago in last night’s third period against the Bruins. That’s right; the Blackhawks scored four goals on four shots in the period, winning 5-2 thanks to the sudden onslaught.
