👋 Good morning!
Anybody else not have a problem with the Brewers waving an “L” flag after eliminating the Cubs last Saturday?
That’s the type of behavior that makes rivalries great. And when all is said and done and the Brewers are inevitably eliminated from the postseason, Cubs fans have some great material to use online.
My lone gripe was that it was a white flag with a blue “L”. The flag is a real thing — they wave it at Wrigley after losses.
But it’s blue with a white letter. A little attention to detail never hurt anybody.

Moody Blue & Orange

It doesn’t matter how it happens — a win is a win.
And after spending the week downplaying last season’s catastrophe in D.C., the Bears coming out on the right side of a last-second win is just what the doctor ordered after the bye week.
Offense: Ask for an improved run game out of the bye and you shall receive an improved run game out of the bye.
D’Andre Swift eclipsed 100 rushing yards for the first time this season, finishing with 108 yards on 14 carries. He added a 55-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter.
It’s Swift’s second 100-yard-plus game in a Bears uniform. His first came last October…against the Commanders, when he picked up 129 on 18 carries.
Ben Johnson on D’Andre Swift: “He was huge. This is the best, the most efficient we've run the ball all year. Really felt an attitude with him. He did a great job finding a little crease and stepping on the gas as we talked about, played a physical style.
“Not only that, I mean the catch 55-yard touchdown was really a game-changer for us. There was a time in the game where we needed a little spark. We're kind of faltering just a little bit as a team, and all it takes is one guy to make a big play like that and really ignite us again.
“So, I think it's who I really thought he was going to be going into the season. We're looking for guys that can elevate the people around him, and he did that here tonight.”
Defense: Jaquan Brisker intercepted Commanders QB Jayden Daniels in the first quarter. Montez Sweat stripped Commanders RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt on the next defensive drive.
But it was Nahshon Wright’s recovery of Daniels’ unforced fumble that set the Bears up to mount a game-winning drive.
Entering Monday night, the big concern on defense was how the Bears would hold up against the Commanders’ strong ground game. As it turned out, pretty well. Croskey-Merritt averaged just 3.6 yards per carry.
Johnson on the defensive effort: “The takeaways were huge for us. Obviously, I thought Dennis Allen [and] the defensive staff did a phenomenal job coming up with a sound game plan. That's a very difficult offense to try to have answers for, and yet they were able to come up with something that we felt good about. And then the guys went out and executed it as well as they possibly could.”
Special Teams: And then there was one obvious hero on Monday night — Jake Moody.
Admittedly, I wasn’t expecting that when I woke up yesterday morning. I don’t think anybody was expecting it.
Moody, filling in for an injured Cairo Santos, went 4-of-5, nailing a 48, 47 and 41-yarder before knocking down the 38-yard walk-off winner. His miss was a blocked attempt to begin the fourth quarter.
Moody, after being hoisted onto his teammates’ shoulders following the win, said last night: “It's a pretty cool series of events. A couple of days ago, I didn't know I was playing. And to get lifted up by my teammates, it's an amazing feeling and I'm really glad I got to share that moment with them.”
Ben Johnson on Moody, who was released by the San Francisco 49ers last month: “We've seen him in practice now for a number of weeks. And we also know what he's capable of. He's made big kicks in big games over the course of his career so far. So, none of it was surprising. I think that's who he is, and I think that change of scenery was really good for him.”
Linebacker Noah Sewell left the game in the second quarter after he suffered a concussion while colliding with defensive tackle Jonathan Ford.
Receiver DJ Moore winced as he exited the field after taking a hit in the first half. He still finished the game, and Ben Johnson didn’t include him in his postgame injury report.
However, Moore was taken via ambulance to a nearby hospital after the win and remained in the D.C. area overnight as a precaution. The Bears are expected to provide an update on Moore’s health today.
Bears 25, Commanders 24

Blackhawks 3, Mammoth 1: And just like that, the Blackhawks have their first win of the regular season.
Arguably their most labored offensive performance of the early part of the season, the Blackhawks mustered just 14 shots on net. But Spencer Knight’s 22-save night was enough to keep the Hawks in front.
Ilya Mikheyev put the Blackhawks on the board midway through the second period before sealing the deal with an empty-netter a period later. Andre Burakovsky tallied the game-winner in the third to break a 1-1 tie.

Roster Moves: Non-playoff teams have begun making roster adjustments and preparations for the upcoming offseason.
That included the White Sox, who removed five players from their 40-man roster.
The Sox outrighted outfielders Dominic Fletcher and Corey Julks and pitchers Elvis Peguero and Owen White to Triple-A Charlotte. They also attempted to pass OF Will Robertson through waivers, but he was claimed by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

We've got a new friend for when the Hawks win!
