👋 Good morning!

Chip Kelly in Evanston?!

It’s like if the Bears had hired Mike McCarthy…as their offensive coordinator…this past offseason.

For Northwestern, it’s an A+ hire: essentially zero risk and an opportunity for an incredibly high reward.

It’s just…surprising. Congrats to the Cats, I suppose. You truly shocked us all.

Thanks To You!

Not a whole lot going on in the sports world yesterday. After all, it’s New Year’s Eve.

Instead of forcing a big topic this morning, I wanted to share a few things from yesterday’s massive accomplishment for CHGO Sports.

  • 100K: We did it! We hit 100,000 subscribers on the CHGO Sports YouTube page yesterday!

It might seem cliché to say that we couldn’t have done it without you, but we genuinely could not have done it without all 100,000 of you.

And nobody deserves it more than this crew. I’m blessed to have a front-row seat to the show(s). They’ve covered the entirety of the Matt Eberflus era, every hair-pulling Bulls loss, the Blackhawks’ painstakingly slow rebuild and everything in between.

We finally hit the mark just after 6 p.m. We began the stream at 11 a.m.

CHGO Blackhawks’ Jay Zawaski drove the show beautifully, CHGO Cubs’ Joey Cristopoulos got us through the lulls and CHGO Bears’ Greg Braggs Jr. butted in whenever he could (shocker – love you, buddy).

Lastly, we aren’t plaque-worthy without super-producer Stephen Nicholas. That guy does just about everything behind the scenes.

There were points during the day yesterday where it felt like the stream may never end. But with their help and yours, we got it done. Thank you again. It means the world to us.

It’s a team effort every day with social media hero Emma Alperovich, producers Chloe Theil and Sarah Fichter and our tremendous sales folks, Amanda Forde, Jim Cook, Chris Pankow and Laurie Siok.

Ex-CHGO producer Joey Spathis even came through the studio, not just to say hello, but to pinch-hit produce. For Spathis, it was like riding a bike. The guy knew the soundboard like the back of his hand.

We talked about the Bears with Adam Hoge, Adam Jahns and Mark Carman. Matt Peck, Big Dave and Will Gottlieb talked Bulls basketball ad nauseam. Will Perdue, ‘Flu Game’ Luke Stuckmeyer, Lance Briggs and D’Lo Brown even joined to say hello and give us a little boost.

Sean Anderson just wanted to talk ball. Mario Tirabassi just wanted to talk puck.

And the Day-1 gang with Kevin Kaduk and Jake Flannigan brought us home to 100K with ALLCITY founder Brandon Spano chiming in via satellite.

This is a truly special place and I’m honored to be able to share what these wonderfully talented people do every single day with all of you.

Islanders 3, Blackhawks 2 – F/SO: Almost. Not quite. But again, almost.

Teuvo Teravainen scored his first goal in 13 games in the second period and Nick Lardis scored his second at the NHL level to draw things even at two with one second left in the second period. But the Blackhawks couldn’t strike in overtime or the shootout.

Winger Jason Dickinson left in the first period with an undisclosed injury and did not return. NHL insider Frank Seravalli also mentioned on CHSN’s broadcast that Connor Bedard will remain sidelined for a while.

Into The Unknown: Bulls guard Josh Giddey will miss “at least a few weeks” due to a left hamstring strain, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Giddey left Monday night’s loss to the Timberwolves in the early moments of the third quarter while clutching his hamstring.

My Guy.
