👋 Good morning!

No Blackhawks. No Bulls. No NFL. No fun.

How’d you spend your Tuesday night? I half-paid attention to some college basketball games and did some laundry.

The good news is that it was the last night without an NFL game, a Blackhawks game or a Bulls game until … Friday? Are you kidding me?

Insider Analysis: Ben Johnson gets what he wants — a Bears run at the NFC North

That’s the thing — there really weren’t any big stories yesterday. So instead, I jumped on social media and asked for your questions for a fun little Q&A.

Thanks to everybody who participated. I genuinely don’t know what I would’ve done without you.

  • What’s the No. 1 reason to be optimistic about Caleb Williams? – Austin

I think we saw it on Sunday. Williams battled more than just the Giants; he took on the elements and his own receivers at times, yet still found a way late in the game to get the job done. It was the type of win we typically see from elite QBs. Good to see it from Williams, too.

  • Favorite radio call from Bears play-by-play broadcaster Jeff Joniak? – Bruce

There are countless options. I remember my brother and I trying to sync the radio to the TV broadcast back in the day. We never really got that down.

But I think No. 1 is an obvious choice: Devin Hester’s kickoff touchdown return to open Super Bowl XLI. Joniak’s “Devin Hester, you are ridiculous” is one of those lines that’ll live through Bears lore forever.

  • If you can switch two players’ numbers on the Bears, who would it be and why? – Gary

I don’t know who I’d switch him with, but the main priority would be getting Jahdae Walker to ditch No. 20. Simply put, that’s not a receiver’s number.

You might remember that when the 53-man roster was initially set, Walker was originally listed as No. 10 and Luther Burden III had switched from No. 87 to No. 13.

Then the Bears re-signed Maurice Alexander to the practice squad and allowed him to keep No. 13. Burden switched to No. 10, and Walker went back to his rookie camp No. 20.

  • If Caleb Williams were a “Yacht Rock” song, what would he be? – Joey

Ride Like the Wind” by Christopher Cross. If you know the song, it’s simple: “I’m on the run, no time to sleep” pretty accurately describes his efforts last Sunday against the Giants.

Plus the line, “And I’ve got such a long way to go.” Williams is far from a finished product. This is only the beginning for No. 18.

  • Best Soldier Field press box meal? – Joey

I’m a simple man. Every home Sunday, it’s a hot dog with the fixings at halftime and about seven cups of popcorn throughout the game. They did have a shepherd’s pie that was delicious a few weeks back.

  • True or False: The Bears will go as far as their offense will take them this season. – Also Joey (Joey, seriously, thank you)

It’s somewhat of a toss-up. The game in Cincinnati is why I’m hesitant to say yes. Scoring 41 points should’ve been plenty. It wasn’t.

To me, how far the Bears go this season still relies on the defense, specifically the status of Kyler Gordon and Jaylon Johnson. If they return and can make legitimate contributions in the secondary, I think the Bears are in business.

  • With Duncan Keith officially inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, should the Blackhawks retire his number? – Kyle

This isn’t a matter of if, but when. Keith isn’t just one of the greatest Blackhawks of all time; he’s one of the best in league history. It’s no surprise he’ll be in the inaugural class of the Blackhawks’ new Hall of Fame. I’d expect to see No. 2 in the rafters pretty soon.

  • What’s the biggest X factor for the Blackhawks making the postseason this year? – J. Arthur

Spencer Knight. The goaltender’s been absolutely electric to begin the season. Let’s be honest: the Blackhawks’ 8-5-3 start is a bit stunning. But if Knight can sustain his performance from the first month through the rest of the schedule, they’ll be right in the thick of the playoff race come April.

  • Will Connor Bedard finish the season in the top five in scoring? – Austin

Barring any injury to him or guys like Tyler Bertuzzi or Andre Burakovsky, yes. His shot is ridiculously impressive, but it’s his noticeably improved effort on the forecheck this season that’s leading to a ton of assist opportunities.

Some Fun Extras

  • Who at CHGO likes whisky the most? Who has the biggest stash, and who has the best bottles? – Ferrier

Great question. Don’t know for sure, but I’d guess Adam Hoge has the nicest liquor shelf at home. At least that’s what the hooligans on the CHGO Bears show have conveyed in the past. We’re both suckers for a good old fashioned.

  • Look into your crystal ball … Rank the Chicago teams where you think they’ll be five years from now. – Sean

    1) Blackhawks, 2) Bears, 3) White Sox, 4) Bulls, 5) Cubs

The Blackhawks will be Cup contenders, and the Cubs will be either entering or in the second year of a rebuild. Will any of the five have won a title in those five years? I’d guess no, but add that the Cubs probably have the best shot in that window.

  • Are the Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls actually good again? Are they legitimately trending in the right direction now? – Bearlissimo

Enjoy the ride, man. I’m not sold on the Bulls quite yet, but they’ve been punching above their weight without Coby White all season long. As for the Bears and Blackhawks, it’s legit. I wouldn’t commit to buying playoff tickets for either team this season, but the climb is real.

  • If you put Connor Bedard on the Bears and Caleb Williams on the Blackhawks, who would have more success? – Quack

Williams, thanks to his lower-body strength, 100 times out of 100. I’d fear for Bedard’s health and well-being if he suited up for the Bears.

  • Rank the following: Colson Montgomery, Josh Giddey, Caleb Williams, Connor Bedard, and Pete Crow-Armstrong. – Joey

    1) Bedard, 2) Williams, 3) Crow-Armstrong, 4) Giddey, 5) Montgomery

  • Turkey or “off the board” for Thanksgiving? – Joey

I’m not a huge turkey guy. That doesn’t mean my plate won’t weigh several pounds with a mountain of sides.

A well-made pot of mashed potatoes is my first choice, but thinking about stuffing, green bean casserole, maybe some mac and cheese, and cranberry sauce (jellied, please) is making my stomach absolutely yearn for November 27th.

Are The Feelings Mutual? Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer spoke to members of the media in Las Vegas on Tuesday at the league’s GM meetings.

Hoyer on LHP Shota Imanaga: “We obviously value Shota a ton. He was amazing for us as a pitcher, as a teammate, and I don’t want to close that door completely by any stretch. But ultimately, we didn’t think the club option was the right value. He didn’t think that the player option was the right value. And that happens.”

Hoyer on the Cubs’ offseason focus: “We’re in pretty good position on the position-player side. On the pitching side, we’re thinner. And so I think that’s going to be our focus. And I expect to explore trades. I expect to explore free agency, both at the top of the market, but then also looking at minor-league free agency.”

“Aurora Borealis? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country?”
