The White Sox placed Luis Robert Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a Grade-2 hamstring strain sustained on Tuesday.

Is it possible that Robert Jr. has played his final game in a White Sox uniform?

  • Robert was removed from Tuesday’s loss against the Royals between the third and fourth inning. On a groundout in the second, Robert quickly made his way down the baseline and nearly beat the throw but seemingly pulled up slightly about 15 feet before the base.

GM Chris Getz on Robert’s injury: “There is a chance that perhaps he doesn’t make it back by the end of the year. Our focus at this point is addressing the hamstring. It's unfortunate news. Luis is very disappointed, as you would expect. Obviously it’s a hit for us because Luis had been playing so well.”

  • It’s worth mentioning that Robert’s contract expires at the end of the season. After opting not to trade him before last month’s trade deadline, if the Sox don’t want to lose Robert in free agency for nothing, they’ll have to pick up a $20 million club option for 2026.

Getz seemed on board with that idea when asked on Wednesday: “We are committed to Luis. … For what he’s capable of doing, the talent, the impact he can have on this club, we like having Luis Robert here.”

It’s been a tough year for Robert, who’s slashing .223/.297/.364 with a career-worst 83 wRC+.

This hamstring issue — his second of the year — is just the latest in a long line of relatively significant injuries that’ve somewhat derailed Robert’s career.

Robert missed 54 games with a hip flexor strain in 2024, and his 2023 season ended early due to an MCL sprain. In 2021, Robert missed 86 games with a Grade-3 hip flexor strain.

It all makes any sort of contract decision on Robert an incredibly complicated one.

The Sox can’t afford to lose their former top commodity for absolutely nothing in the offseason. But they also can’t continue to rely on somebody as frequently unavailable.

Robert bounced back with a decent July but tapered off again in August. But that $20 million price tag is a steep one, especially given his contributions to the club. It’s banking on best-case scenario for Robert Jr, which hasn’t exactly worked out to this point.

The Sox could choose to part with Robert Jr. via trade this offseason…

Any takers on the oft-injured center fielder with a .223/.288/.372 slash line over the last two years?

We’ll see.

As for the Sox in their series finale against the Royals last night…let’s not talk about it.

LET THE FINAGLING BEGIN: The Bears claimed LB D’Marco Jackson and CB Jaylon Jones off of waivers and signed 15 players to their practice squad on Wednesday. To make room for Jackson and Jones on the 53-man roster, the team released LS Scott Daly and WR Devin Duvernay.

Daly joined the Bears just ahead of the regular season last year after Patrick Scales sustained a back injury. Duvernay signed with the Bears earlier in the offseason.

By releasing Daly, the Bears do not have a long snapper signed to the active roster, making Cole Kmet — yes, Cole Kmet — the most experienced long snapper on the 53-man. However, the Bears did add rookie long snapper Luke Elkin to their practice squad.

Cutting Daly now feels more procedural than anything. As a vested veteran, Daly’s contract is immediately terminated and he is not subject to waivers. Assuming the Bears have a few moves up their sleeves (what’s up yours?), Daly will be back on the roster before Week 1.

PRACTICE NEWS: Jaquan Brisker left Wednesday’s practice early with a member of the training staff. Something to keep an eye on.

YIKES: Never a good sign when Reese McGuire is closing things out on the mound.

Nico Hoerner’s three-run homer put the Cubs in front of the Giants in the second inning. That was the last decent moment for the Cubs on Wednesday night.

Rafael Devers homered twice as Colin Rea allowed six earned runs, and the Cubs’ offense went silent after the second inning, picking up just one base hit after Hoerner’s homer.

Worst of all, they wasted a rare Brewers loss and a chance to pick up a game in the divisional race. Instead, the Cubs remain 6.5 games back with 28 games left to make a move.
