👋 Good morning!

The Packers aren’t trading for Micah Parsons. The Packers aren’t trading for Micah Parsons. The Packers aren’t trading for Micah Parsons. The Packers aren’t trading for Micah Parsons. The Packers aren’t—

Crazy rumor, right? I don’t like how much attention it’s getting.

Are the Packers one Micah Parsons away from putting it all together? I don’t think so.

It still wouldn’t be enjoyable to go up against the two-time All-Pro twice a year.

Let’s at least hope the Bears have figured things out at left tackle…😬

53-Man Roster Surprises

The Bears’ initial 53-man roster is set. Let’s take a look at the best story of camp and a couple of other surprises.

  • The Best Story: From undrafted free agent to preseason hero, Jahdae Walker’s hard work paid off on Tuesday when he survived the final round of roster cuts.

Walker had a big preseason, culminating in touchdowns against the Dolphins and Chiefs. His toe-tap on a well-placed ball from Tyson Bagent in last Friday’s game-winning drive was also one of the most impressive catches you’ll ever see.

Rome Odunze on Walker: “All Day Jahdae. That's the man, man. He brings a lot of energy to the organization. Every single day, he comes in and works tremendously hard, and he's got that chip on his shoulder. … It's really an awesome story to be honest.”

Ryan Poles on Walker: “When I think of Jahdae and I think of Theo (Benedet), it's just like, where they walked in, to where they are today, the discussion was developmental, and then they put themselves ahead of that curve.”

  • Three Backs: With Travis Homer headed to the injured reserve and forced to miss at least four games, the Bears’ running back room is a bit thin. They opted to keep just D’Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai and Roschon Johnson.

However, Monangai and Johnson haven’t practiced in several days due to injuries. The Bears still decided to waive Ian Wheeler and Brittain Brown, though I fully expect at least one — if not both — to sign onto the practice squad.

Ben Johnson on the depleted room: “We're still working through that. There are some question marks on when all these guys will be fully healthy again. That's really what we're talking about as we're going through the roster right now.”

  • Surprise, Surprise: Linebacker Carl Jones Jr. was one of the more surprising names to see make the initial 53-man. However, Amen Ogbongbemiga’s placement on the “Designated for Return” reserve list makes the situation a bit clearer.

Jones Jr’s true challenge will be surviving on the roster until Week 1 and then beyond Ogbongbemiga’s eventual return.

The Bears also opted to keep 2024 third-round OL Kiran Amegadjie despite his struggles to stay healthy and compete for the starting left tackle position.

Amegadjie was a popular cut candidate in a few of the projections I saw floating around, but Ryan Poles mentioned that the team still views the lineman as a versatile asset potentially capable of playing guard, too.

SLIP SLIDIN’ AWAY: Well, that was an entirely forgettable loss. Unfortunately for the Cubs, it drops them to 6.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers with 30 games left on the schedule.

Justin Verlander's six innings of two-run baseball were enough to pick up his first win at Oracle Park in San Francisco this season. It was his 13th start at home in 2025.

Matt Shaw and Carson Kelly each picked up run-scoring singles, but the offensive output wasn’t nearly enough to pick up Matthew Boyd, who allowed five earned and two homers in 5.1 IP.

Normally it’s one of those outings you’d bury and try to forget. But as the Brewers have pulled away, those losses have added up.

As the cherry on top of the crap sundae, pitching prospect Brandon Birdsell will undergo season-ending elbow surgery. Birdsell, 25, is ranked the Cubs’ No. 9 prospect by MLB.

Giants 5, Cubs 2

YOU BLEW IT! Not even Colson Montgomery’s fourth consecutive game with a home run could save the Sox from themselves. Kyle Teel and Lenyn Sosa added RBI singles, and Martin Perez tossed seven spectacular innings of one-hit ball.

But the 4-0 lead heading into the eighth inning still wasn’t enough insurance. Jordan Leasure allowed two runs, Grant Taylor was charged with another three, and Tyler Alexander might as well have been wearing a Royals uniform.

To make matters worse, Luis Robert Jr. exited after the third inning with left hamstring soreness. According to the club, he’ll undergo further evaluation.

The Sox will have to go 15-15 the rest of the way to avoid 100 losses.
