‘Puke and Rally’

Unexpected returns? Yeah, they’re apparently just Adrian Houser’s thing.
The surprise standout of the White Sox’s 2025 season puked in the dugout after throwing a scoreless first inning in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Toronto.
But Houser quickly returned to the mound in the second inning no worse for the wear. He pitched seven innings in the heat, allowing just one run with seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
The outing lowered his ERA to 1.60 over the 50 2/3 innings since the 32-year-old right hander joined the team.
“Puke and rally,” Houser told reporters at Rate Field. “Once I get it out, it’s all good. Ready to rock and roll.”
Houser has a history of throwing up in the bigs. He estimated his tossed cookie total at “probably” five times and there are least two previous incidents when he was a pitcher with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Speaking of unexpected returns, Houser is thought to be one of the team’s most valuable trade chips heading into the next few weeks.
Not bad for a pitcher who was released from the Rangers’ Triple-A team on May 15 and then signed by the White Sox six days later for $1.35 million. Houser won his first start for the Sox just hours later with six scoreless innings.
Houser has just built unexpected trade value since and even if the Sox only get a prospect lottery ticket or two, that’s more than they were getting on May 20.
Houser’s new team might want the Sox to throw in a mop, though.

Twins 4, Cubs 2: Two games in Minnesota, three total runs from the Cubs so far.
What happened to the offense that just put up 28 over a weekend with the Cardinals? The All-Star Break might not be arriving soon enough for the Cubs, the only problem is that they still must avoid a sweep in today’s matinee against the Twins and then they must hit Yankee Stadium for a weekend in the Bronx. Good news is that Wednesday’s starter — Cade Horton — will get an early start on vacation after this one.
Porter Hodge is headed to the IL with “shoulder impingement,” which may be a fancy term for “just gave up six runs and three homers in his most recent outing.” Craig Counsell doesn’t think it’ll be a long stay, though Hodge’s injury struggles this season aren’t anything to feel good about.

Sky 87, Wings 76: Half of the Sky’s six wins have now come against Dallas, but they needed a fun night like this one at Wintrust Arena — particularly with league-best Minnesota coming to town on Saturday afternoon.
Rebecca Allen scored a season-high 27 points for the Sky.
Angel Reese turned in her 13th double-double of the season, but her streak of 15+ rebound games ended at six. (Reese had 11 on Wednesday night.)
In addition to Reebook dropping her new shoe, Reese was unveiled as the cover athlete on the WNBA edition of NBA2K earlier in the day.

Watch out Tyson Bagent!
