👋 Good morning!
Remember when Bears safety Mike Brown walked off back-to-back weeks with an overtime pick-six back in 2001?
There’s a great call from that second game against the Browns where Greg Gumbel exclaims, “Mike Brown has done it again!”
I’m tempted to channel my inner Gumbel every time Colson Montgomery crushes another home run.
For those counting at home, that’s 853 feet worth of homers for the rookie over the last two nights.

Should Caleb Williams and the starters have played in Sunday’s preseason opener? I don’t know. Maybe. But Williams on the sideline allowed us to get an extended look at the quarterbacks vying for the No. 2 spot on the Bears’ depth chart.
How’d they fare on Sunday, and what did we learn?
TYSON BAGENT played the entire first half against the Dolphins. Bagent finished the day 13-for-19 passing with 103 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Ben Johnson on Bagent’s touchdown pass: “I thought Tyson did a great job. That was one of those high back throws we've been talking about. Maurice (Alexander) is actually the secondary option, so number one wasn't there. Tyson got to number two and gave him a chance.”
CASE KEENUM, who received 29 snaps in the second half, was 8-for-10 passing for 80 yards and two scores, hitting running back Deion Hankins on a short pass and later dropping one in the bucket for rookie receiver Jahdae Walker.
Keenum, 37, on Walker’s TD: “It's kind of funny to be playing with the age of some of those guys out there in their first NFL games, but I enjoy that as much as any game I've ever played. I know it's preseason, but man, throwing touchdowns and celebrating with your teammates, that's what it's all about. It was so fun.”
AUSTIN REED picked up the final two drives for the Bears’ offense, completing just five of his 10 pass attempts for 41 yards.
It’s still awfully tough to say where this competition is at this point. Keenum has typically received most of the reps with the second-team offense in training camp, so the strategy to start Bagent was an interesting one.
Bagent, the 25-year-old CrossFit connisseur, is significantly more physically capable. But Keenum’s spent 13 seasons around the NFL for good reason, too.
Unless the Bears trade Bagent before the season starts, which I do not anticipate happening, they’ll almost certainly carry three quarterbacks onto the 53-man roster, leaving Reed as the odd man out.
As for who might back up Williams, it depends on the situation. When the dust settles and we get an official depth chart, I imagine it’ll be Keenum’s name on the No. 2 line.

AT LEAST WE’VE GOT No. 12: Aside from Colson Montgomery's fifth-inning home run, the Sox couldn’t get anything moving offensively last night. Neither could the Detroit Tigers until Spencer Torkelson took Brandon Eisert deep in the ninth for the 2-1 lead.
Then the rain hit Rate Field, and after an hour-long delay, the Sox went down without much of a whimper, going down 1-2-3 on 12 pitches.
Tigers 2, White Sox 1

6.5 BACK: It matches the Cubs’ largest lead in the NL Central this season — up 6.5 over the Brewers after a win against Milwaukee on June 17.
Nearly two months later and everything has flipped upside down for the Cubs. The Brewers won again yesterday, 7-1, pushing their undefeated streak this month to 10 games.
Yikes.

SECONDARY ADDITIONS: To supplement some of the Bears’ injury issues to their secondary, they’re expected to add safety Mark Perry and cornerbacks Mehki Garner and Kaleb Hayes to the 90-man roster, as first reported by the Chicago Tribune.
Jaylon Johnson remains sidelined with a leg injury that has kept him out for the entirety of training camp. Kyler Gordon (hamstring), Nick McCloud (undisclosed) and Zah Frazier (personal) did not play in Sunday’s preseason opener. Terell Smith left the game early with a groin injury.
Additionally, the Bears waived/injured Ameer Speed and signed running back Brittain Brown on Monday.

@adamjahns @CHGO_Sports @CHGO_Bears it finally arrived!!!!
